Specialized Adolocent/Young Adult Unit Bayview is Nassau County’s only facility specializing in pediatric and young adults with multiple handicaps, developmental disabilities and medical challenges. The program, supervised by a dedicated MD, offers a handicapped playroom, wheelchair accessible horticultural center, computers with internet hook-ups, televisions and DVD players. Bayview offers a full range of recreational and therapeutic activities, including pet therapy. If eligible, educational support for these residents is provided in conjunction with the West Hempstead School District, the Children’s Learning Center and AHRC. |

A Unique Facility Caring
for a Very Special Population Located near the sandy beaches of Long Island’s South Shore in a nautical community, Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers specialized care for residents with special needs and the convenience of an easily accessible location. As the only skilled nursing facility in the region specializing in care for residents with developmental disabilities and/or multiple physical challenges, Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive program for these residents in a very nurturing and home-like setting. Our facility is equipped with specialized handicapped and wheelchair accessible equipment to assist residents in treatment, in dining and in recreational activities. |

Steps Toward Active Rehabilitation (STAR) The STAR program at Bayview has been designed by our interdisciplinary team to provide instruction and interventional services, enabling residents to remain at their highest level of practical functioning. Residents who participate in the program have disabilities including, but not limited to, cognitive, neuromuscular and speech impairments. They attend the program 5 days/week for up to 8 hours/day based on an individualized plan of care. These therapies are provided individually or in group format as identified in the resident’s plan of care. The curriculum provides for a consistent daily routine which includes cognitive-based, gross motor, leisure and educational activities as well as vocational work simulation when appropriate. |

Creative Therapeutic Programs Through our coordinated rehabilitation, nursing and recreation departments, Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers specialized hand over hand therapies. Our many activities include coffee socials, art therapy, music, exercise, cognitive groups, massage therapy, cooking classes, computers, horticulture and an MS group. In addition, Bayview offers beauty parlor, religious and laundry services. In our own wheelchair accessible van, Bayview residents participate in the active community by shopping, attending baseball games, concerts on the popular Long Beach boardwalk, movies, bowling and lunches at local restaurants. |
